Polly Bruce Tilford
I was born in 1951 in the same town that I live now, Bloomington, IN. My Dad, Rex Bruce, is one of the founders who met with 37th Chief over the Bruces, Lord Elgin, and Duncan Bruce at Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in 1984 to found Bruce International. Rex was the first President. He and my mother, Norma, wrote and published the first newsletter for Bruce International for years.
My husband John & I were married in 1970. There were two beautiful children from this marriage, Aaron and Sarah.
I joined Bruce International in 1984. Due to raising children, I didn’t become active until 1995 when I became Secretary/Treasurer. When Family of Bruce International was formed in 2005, I became Secretary and the job of Treasurer became separate job due to the size of the organization.
I am currently National Secretary and really enjoy this position. It’s a lot of work but I enjoy meeting people and helping explain Bruce heritage.
I am locally active in Scottish Society of Greater Bloomington, Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums (as a bagpiper), Scottish Country Dancers of Greater Bloomington and Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. I enjoy outings with friends and cousins. Vegetable gardening is therapy for me in the summer.
John and I have traveled in the United States and Europe. Some of the trips are cheaper with the help of Space Available military flights. We have been to Scotland five times and have been consistently blessed by Scottish hospitality.
